During the last decade there was a shift from wireless and mobile communications technology, networks and applications towards integration of radio with other disciplines. Integration of navigation, sensing and services allow for entering new areas in which many requirements from individuals and organizations are satisfied.Potential applications are manifold. Developments for realizing these new application areas will cause a boost on new systems demonstrating the potentials of this integration approach.In this first book the fundamentals of this new approach on integrated communication, navigation, sensing and services (Conasense) will be elucidated. Furthermore, several applications illustrate some of the aims of Conasense. Two major areas have been selected1. Quality of life2. Stephen I. Long received his B.Sc. degree in engineering physics from the University of California, Berkeley, and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. From 1974 to 1977 he was a Senior Engineer at Varian Associates, Palo Alto, CA. From 1978 to 1981 he was a member of the technical staff at Rockwell International Science Center, Thousand Oaks, CA. He has been a member of the Electrical and Computer Engineering department of the University of California, Santa Barbara since 1981. He is currently Professor Emeritus and has served as Vice Chair, Graduate Advisor, and Undergraduate Program Director. His research interests included the design of very high-speed digital integrated circuits, high performance devices and fabrication technologies, and high frequency analog integrated circuits for wireless and fiber-optic communications. Dr. Long received the IEEE Microwave Applications Award in 1978 for development of InP millimeter wave devices. In 1988 he was a research visitor at GEC Hirst Research Centre, UK. In 1994 he was a Fulbright research visitor at the Signal Processing Laboratory, Tampere University of Technology, Finland and a visiting professor at Electromagnetics Institute, Technical University of Denmark. In 1999, he was a visitor at Hewlett-Packard HP/Eesof Division, Santa Rosa, CA.
