At their most successful, Shakespeare's styles are strategies to make plain the limits of thought and feeling which define the significance of human actions. John Baxter analyses the way in which these limits are reached, and also provides a strong argument for the idea that the power of Shakespearean drama depends upon the co-operation of poetic style and dramatic form. Three plays are examined in detail in the text: The Tragedy of Mustapha by Fulke Greville and Richard II and Macbeth by Shakespeare.

Swati Mehta is Assistant Professor at Punjab School of Economics, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar. Baldev Singh Shergill is Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, Punjabi University South Campus, Talwandi Sabo, Punjab. He did his PhD in Economics at Punjabi University, Patiala. Prior to his current position, he taught at the University of Delhi. He has published widely in journals of repute like Economic and Political Weekly, Journal of Development Policy and Practice, and the International Journal of Economics and Development, amongst others. He is a referee to many journals including Millennial Asia and Man & Development.
