Conjugated microporous polymers (CMPs) with various structures and properties have been synthesized, and it is possible to design the molecular structure of the conjugated skeleton and nanopores. Research on CMPs in clean energy technologies is important for the improvement of CMP-based materials and their applications in energy and environmental engineering. CMPs show great potential for solving energy and environmental problems such as gas adsorption, photocatalysis, solar energy conversion, and electrical energy storage and conversion.

This book summarizes the progress in the synthesis and design of CMPs and their applications in clean energy technologies such as hydrogen generation and storage, carbon dioxide adsorption and conversion, rechargeable batteries, supercapacitors, and photocatalytic H2 production. It describes the design, synthesis, and recent developments of conjugated microporous polymers with emphasis on the possible applications of these materials. The book is a useful resource for students and researchers involved in the development of porous materials.

Atsushi Nagai is a professor and the group leader of Next-Generation Energy Systems Group at Ensemble3 Center of Excellence, Warsaw, Poland. He obtained his PhD in polymerization mechanism and polymerizable monomer design from Yamagata University, Japan, in 2005. He has more than a decade of experience as an assistant, visiting, and associate professor at Kyoto University, Japan (2008–2010), Institute for Molecular Science, Japan (2010–2017), University of Texas Southwestern, USA (2014–2015), Technical University of Delft, the Netherlands (2017–2020), and Toyohashi University of Technology, Japan (2021–2022). He has published more than 80 papers, 6 patents, and 5 book chapters, edited 2 books, and authored a textbook. His research interests include the design and synthesis of organic porous materials containing covalent organic frameworks and conjugated microporous polymers for various energy storage applications.
